You dial 999 to report a burglary. The responder asks if the burglar is still in the house. They’re not. So, is it an emergency? Clearly not. Yet calling 999 ties up call handlers who need to respond to genuine emergency situations. To report a crime that’s already happened, there’s 101. Our job was to tell that story.
